Summary:  The job of the Gifted Resource Teacher (GRT) is to work in conjunction with the current GRT, secondary counselors, staff, and administrators to provide support and expertise to the students, families, and staff of Lindbergh Schools specifically around the needs of gifted secondary students.  This job involves advising students regarding high school success and college preparedness; supporting student executive functioning development; and guiding students through advocating for their needs.  The GRT helps develop schedules for students and assists with the day-to-day operation of the secondary gifted program. This job is located on the Lindbergh High School Campus and reports to both the High School Administrative Staff and District Gifted Coordinator; however, there is travel to both Truman and Sperreng Middle Schools, as needed.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • For assigned caseload, advise parents and/or legal guardians on student progress, communicating expectations and achievements, and developing methods for improvement or reinforcement of classroom goals at home.  Conduct regular meetings with identified gifted students to monitor progress, discuss concerns, and provide coaching regarding key gifted concerns such as executive functioning, specific social emotional needs, and other unique gifted characteristics.  Continue interactions, as needed, with students to address needs in a timely manner.
  • As part of the GRT PLC, analyze test data and plan instructional responses to enhance student achievement.  Assess student progress towards objectives, expectations, and goals, providing feedback to students, parents, administration, and seeking assistance from district specialists as needed.
  • Provide instruction to identified gifted students individually, in small groups, or as a full class to improve academic success and support social/emotional needs. (Example: Gifted Student Advisory, Seminars, PAC, Academic Networking, and Learning Labs).
  • Collaborate with professional learning communities, instructional staff, school personnel, parents, business partners, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan and student achievement.  
  • Collaborate with content area teachers to help differentiate instructional materials, address individualized learning needs, increase student achievement, and incorporate technology and educational initiatives.
  • Counsel students to improve performance and problem-solving techniques.  Assist with advocacy as needed.
  • Respond to inquiries from various sources to resolve issues, provide information, and give direction.
  • Assist students with college and career research, selection, admissions procedures, scholarship applications, and recommendation letters for postsecondary institutions or career fields.  Assist in facilitating job shadowing and mentoring opportunities to ensure successful learning experiences.
  • Partner with the Gifted Coordinator, school counselors, and district pre-collegiate partners to share information.
  • Promote and attend college and career opportunities to enhance participation.
  • Research extended learning opportunities for gifted students to connect them with options in their areas of interest and talent.
  • Oversee Missouri Scholars Application Process.
  • Maintain both confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic files and records according to administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Participate in various meetings to convey and gather information necessary for job functions.
  • Support middle school students particularly with the transition to high school including support with scheduling.  Assist gifted coordinator with any MS to HS acceleration logistics.
  • Help facilitate a peer mentoring program for LHS students to Idea Center students.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge regarding the particular needs of gifted and talented high school students.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks and upgrade skills as job conditions change.
  • Skill in applying assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment, and using pertinent software applications.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to accomplish tasks under limited supervision; flexibility to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Strong record of establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; and exhibiting tact and patience.
  • High school teaching experience preferred

Work Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, 50% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

In addition, upon submission of your application you will be sent and required to complete an Educator Performance Inventory (EPI) assessment, which should take about 45 minutes to an hour to complete. The EPI is a tool that helps assess your strengths, areas for improvement, potential for student growth, cognitive ability, and your teaching skills. The questions are selected at random from a large bank containing a wide range of subjects and scenarios. The results of this assessment are used by the building principals to assist in the screening process and help them determine how your personality and skill set could fill the vacant position. The numeric score given as a result of this assessment will not be shared with candidates as they will not have the materials needed to understand what the results indicate; however, the principals may use the information deduced from the assessment to help guide conversations and professional development should you be hired for this position.
